{"id":326826,"date":"2020-07-22T06:02:55","date_gmt":"2020-07-21T20:02:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/?p=326826"},"modified":"2020-07-22T06:02:55","modified_gmt":"2020-07-21T20:02:55","slug":"over-51m-worth-of-stimulus-checks-already-out","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/over-51m-worth-of-stimulus-checks-already-out\/","title":{"rendered":"Over $51M worth of stimulus checks already out"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Over $51 million worth of the economic impact payments, more popularly known as \u201cstimulus checks,\u201d is being issued by the CNMI Department of Finance.<\/p>\n<p>Finance Secretary David Atalig said the department has projected to release about $55 million worth of the payments, and is currently continuing its weekly release of stimulus checks. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe had estimated about $55 million that we projected that we\u2019ll be releasing and, as people submit their 2019 returns, I expect to have another few million dollars just for stimulus based on their 2019 tax returns,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Early July, Finance announced that the total available funding for the Economic Impact Payments in the CNMI increased to $54.7 million, a $7.6-million increase from the original set by U.S. Treasury for the Commonwealth to receive.<\/p>\n<p>The remaining amount is for taxpayers who have had issues in their tax returns, or who needed to confirm or verify their dependents.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are releasing stimulus checks on a weekly basis.
