We will start in the Koblerville village,” said Henry Hofschneider, Saipan Mayor David M. Apatang’s chief of staff.

The mayor’s office’s contract with HK Pangelinan and Associates LLC suggests they would start at Koblerville because of the subdivision in the area that is well organized and used to be a homestead subdivision.

“We will be giving homeowners a letter that gives them their street address and number of sample [images] that show them how to put [the numbers] on their houses or commercial buildings,” Hofschneider said.

The house numbers will be at a minimum height of 5.5 feet to 5.6 feet from the floor. The font size will be 4 inches to 9 inches.

“This is for the benefit for our community. It is also for our 911 system and emergencies to quickly know if anything happens. This may also be an opportunity to establish a door-to-door mail delivery on Saipan,” said Apatang.

Once the system is in place, firefighters, paramedics, and police will be able to locate a certain home or building immediately, and could possibly save someone’s life, Hofschneider added.

The start date would be on Aug. 3, 2020, and may have an estimated completion time of next year. They hope to assign numbers to about 180-250 homes.
