A day after Guam\u2019s Gov. Lou Leon Guerrero tested positive for COVID-19 last Tuesday night, Guam\u2019s Lt. Gov. Josh Tenorio also tested positive for the coronavirus last Wednesday.<\/p>\n
In a statement Tenorio\u2019s office released Wednesday night, he said that he initially tested negative for the virus. However, after a few days, he experienced mild symptoms that included a slight fever, chills, and a cough.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis afternoon (Aug. 12), I began to exhibit mild symptoms, including a slight fever, chills, and a cough, and felt it was necessary to test again. Tonight (Aug. 12), I received a positive result,\u201d said Tenorio. Before this, Tenorio said he followed all health protocols such as wearing a face mask, practicing social distancing, etc.<\/p>\n
\u201cDespite exhibiting moderate symptoms of the virus, I remain in good health. I will continue my isolation pending clearance from my health care provider,\u201d said Tenorio. Additionally, all in-person meetings involving Leon Guerrero and Tenorio have been cancelled and shifted to online and will continue uninterrupted.<\/p>\n
Tenorio also stated that a contact tracing is ongoing for immediate contacts such as family members, friends, and staff. Testing is also in the process.<\/p>\n
\u201cTo the people of Guam, we stay the course. We maintain our COVID-19 response\u2014steadfast as ever. Gov. Leon Guerrero\u2019s condition has been improving daily, and government operations continue with all the safety measures in place. Tomorrow, we will take a series of steps to redouble our effort against COVID-19 and keep Guam safe,\u201d said Tenorio.<\/p>\n
Two government offices in Guam temporarily closed their doors yesterday after both offices received news that one employee tested positive for COVID-19. The two government offices are Guam\u2019s International Airport Authority and Guam\u2019s Department of Public Health and Social Services Division of General Administration Office.<\/p>\n
According to GIAA executive manager John M. Quinata, they were informed last Aug. 13 of the confirmed positive case. \u201cAlthough all employees have been diligent in complying with the wearing of facial coverings and practicing of social distancing in their work spaces, out of an abundance of caution, we will be temporarily closing our administration office until such time DPHSS contact tracing and investigation can take place and sanitization of the workspace is completed to ensure the safety and health of our employees,\u201d said Quinata in a statement.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
