The NMI Democratic Party held a \u201cmeet and greet\u201d event on Tinian last Friday and cut the ceremonial ribbon to unveil its new headquarters on the island. <\/p>\n
NMI Democratic Party chair Nola K. Hix said over 150 guests attended the event and Saipan House of Representatives Precinct 5 candidate Leila Fleming Staffler, who is a native of Tinian, also came.<\/p>\n
In response to Saipan Tribune\u2019s request for comments, Staffler said Tuesday that the people of Tinian are always welcoming.<\/p>\n
\u201cI don\u2019t know if you have been there recently, but when you drive around the island of Tinian, everybody waves,\u201d Staffler said.<\/p>\n
As for people\u2019s reaction to the party\u2019s candidates, the people she said the people she spoke with are hopeful and excited for the possibility of change. <\/p>\n
Hix said House of Representatives Saipan Precinct 3 candidate Corina Magofna also attended the event in support of her Tinian brothers.<\/p>\n
Hix said the party\u2019s Tinian Senate candidate Jose Pangelinan \u201cGurak\u201d Cruz and House candidate Frederick Arend Dela Cruz, along with their campaign committees and supporters, thanked their guests and committees while asking for votes of confidence in the upcoming Nov. 3 general elections.<\/p>\n
Hix said two campaign messages shared by the candidates were a vote to end political intimidation and retaliation in government, and a vote for economic and agricultural opportunities for the people of Tinian. <\/p>\n
She said Cruz and Dela Cruz shared their thoughts on tourism, and the need to grow private businesses.<\/p>\n
The Tinian candidates thanked landlord Abelina Cing and former Tinian senator David Cing and family for their contributions and support of the new headquarters.<\/p>\n
