Although there has been little evidence so far of community transmission in the CNMI, its tally of positive COVID-19 cases had been slowly going up\u2014oftentimes one at a time\u2014mostly from passengers arriving from Guam, a situation that Gov. Ralph DLG Torres finds \u201cvery alarming.\u201d<\/p>\n
Speaking at a recent radio news briefing, Torres said the COVID-19 infection rate in Guam is \u201cvery alarming\u201d and that he wants to see how the CNMI can help its neighbor. Guam has over 2,000 positive cases and over 30 fatalities. <\/p>\n
\u201cAnd that\u2019s just 130 miles south of us!\u201d said the governor, adding that, as the CNMI continues to fight COVID-19, he urged the Commonwealth to also look at ways on how to help \u201cour brothers and sisters in Guam.\u201d <\/p>\n
Torres again expressed gratitude to the CNMI community for believing in his administration, the Governor\u2019s COVID-19 Task Force and its operation, first responders, the hospital\u2019s chief executive officer, Esther Mu\u00f1a, COVID-19 Task Force chair Warren Villagomez, and the business sector, as the Commonwealth continues to fight the pandemic. <\/p>\n
\u201cAnd I always said it, we\u2019re all fighting COVID-19 together, not against each other. That\u2019s one of the reasons, the strongest reason, for us that we [have] the lowest [infection rate],\u201d said Torres, noting that CNMI has had only 61 positive cases so far and that more than half are arriving passengers.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt is important and I acknowledge and thank again the community because without\u2026everyone[\u2019s cooperation] we would not be as safe as we are here today,\u201d the governor said.<\/p>\n
He said it\u2019s not a perfect system, but the people are all fighting against COVID-19, which is the strongest message and practice that the CNMI has since the onset of the pandemic.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
