A passenger on a United Airlines flight from Guam last Sept. 24 tested positive for COVID-19 upon arrival on Saipan, raising the CNMI\u2019s cumulative total to 70.<\/p>\n
According to a statement from the Commonwealth Healthcare Corp., the passenger was identified through travel screening and was confirmed positive for COVID-19 through testing upon arrival. The passenger was immediately brought to the isolation facility at Kanoa Resort in Susupe.<\/p>\n
CHCC has already conducted contact tracing for the most immediate contacts, which include passengers on the same flight.<\/p>\n
As of Sept. 27, the CNMI has seen little to no evidence of community transmission. Its recent COVID-19 positive cases have been passengers\u2014raising the CNMI\u2019s cumulative total one at a time. In the neighboring island of Guam, its number of COVID-19-related deaths is now at 43, with the death last Sept. 26 of a 53-year-old male with underlying health conditions that were intensified by COVID-19. He was admitted to Guam Memorial Hospital last Aug. 30 after testing positive for COVID-19. Almost four weeks later, he was pronounced deceased at approximately 8:57pm, according to the Joint Information Center. <\/p>\n
Guam Gov. Lou Leon Guerrero expressed deep sadness as Guam saw at least one fatality almost every other day throughout the month of September. \u201cWe have mourned and grieved and shared moments of silence\u2014some days more so than others. It is with great sadness to announce we have lost another person to COVID-19,\u201d said Leon Guerrero. She pointed out that the latest case is more than just a \u201cdata point\u201d or \u201cstatistic,\u201d and should be remembered for the life he lived. \u201cTo those he cherished, we offer our deepest sympathies and condolences in this most difficult time,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
Leon Guerrero stressed that everyone plays a part in combating COVID-19 and that actions not only affect them (community members) but those around them as well. \u201cWe must remain committed to keeping our community safe and healthy.
