Amy Coney Barrett<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Together with 165 federal and state Republican officials from across the United States, Gov. Ralph DLG Torres expressed his support for President Donald J. Trump\u2019s nomination of Judge Amy Coney Barrett to the Supreme Court.<\/p>\n

\u201cJudge\u2026Barrett is an accomplished and excellent jurist who will serve all Americans from Washington to the territories honorably on our nation\u2019s highest court. She brings a wealth of knowledge and extensive experience from her work in private practice, in academia as a distinguished legal scholar and professor, and in public service as a bipartisan-supported federal judge on the U.S. Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals,\u201d said Torres in a press statement yesterday. \u201cI wholeheartedly support President Trump in making another exceptional choice to the Supreme Court, and I congratulate Judge Barrett and wish her the best for a smooth and thorough confirmation process.\u201d<\/p>\n

Torres joined 115 Republican congressional leaders, including Senate majority leader Mitch McConnell and House minority leader Kevin McCarthy and 20 other Republican governors in their collective support for Trump\u2019s nomination of Barrett. Sixteen state attorneys general have also conveyed their support.<\/p>\n

\u201cPresident Trump could not have made a better decision. Judge Amy Coney Barrett is an exceptionally impressive jurist and an exceedingly well-qualified nominee to the Supreme Court of the United States,\u201d said McConnell.<\/p>\n

\u201cPresident Trump just knocked it out of the park with his Supreme Court nominee. There is no question that Amy Coney Barrett is the best-qualified person to uphold the Constitution. The Senate should confirm her quickly,\u201d said McCarthy.<\/p>\n

Barrett has served as a judge on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 7th Circuit since 2017.\u00a0 Before becoming a judge, she was the Diane and M.O. Miller, II Research Chair in Law and Professor of Law at Notre Dame Law School, where her scholarship focused on constitutional and statutory interpretation and the federal courts.\u00a0 Barrett has also served as a Visiting Associate Professor of Law at the University of Virginia Law School and the John M. Olin Fellow in Law at George Washington University Law School.\u00a0 Earlier in her career, she practiced at the prestigious law firms Miller, Cassidy, Larroca & Lewin LLP and Baker Botts LLP.\u00a0 Barrett clerked on the Supreme Court for Justice Antonin Scalia and for Judge Laurence H. Silberman on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit.\u00a0 She is a magna cum laude graduate of Rhodes College in Tennessee and a summa cum laude graduate of Notre Dame Law School, where she graduated first in her class.<\/p>\n
