{"id":331545,"date":"2020-10-14T06:02:59","date_gmt":"2020-10-13T20:02:59","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/?p=331545"},"modified":"2020-10-14T06:02:59","modified_gmt":"2020-10-13T20:02:59","slug":"learn-to-prevent-falls-among-the-elderly","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/learn-to-prevent-falls-among-the-elderly\/","title":{"rendered":"Learn to prevent falls among the elderly"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Elderly members of the community, their family members and caregivers, and students in the health, social work, or related fields are invited to a free Zoom session on preventing falls. <\/p>\n<p>Hosted by the Guam\/Micronesia Geriatrics Workforce Enhancement Program through the University of Guam School of Health, the session will take place in two identical classes: 6pm to 7pm tomorrow, Thursday, and 10am to 11am on Saturday.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOne\u00a0in\u00a0four older adults\u00a0experience\u00a0a fall every year.\u00a0Though common, there are many ways\u00a0to\u00a0prevent\u00a0falls, increasing the safety and independence of older adults,\u201d said Margaret Hattori-Uchima, dean of the UOG School of Health and co-project director of the Guam\/Micronesia Geriatrics Workforce Enhancement Program.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Participants will learn about common misconceptions about falling, risk factors that increase falls, and strategies to reduce falls.
