{"id":331931,"date":"2020-10-21T06:03:18","date_gmt":"2020-10-20T20:03:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/?p=331931"},"modified":"2020-10-21T06:03:18","modified_gmt":"2020-10-20T20:03:18","slug":"nmc-student-government-officers-sworn-in","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/nmc-student-government-officers-sworn-in\/","title":{"rendered":"NMC student government officers sworn in"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>An all-female slate of seven newly-elected Associated Students of Northern Marianas College or ASNMC officers took their oath of office last Friday, Oct. 16.<\/p>\n<p>Family, friends, NMC interim president Frankie Eliptico, NMC dean of Learning &amp; Student Success Charlotte Cepeda, ASNMC officers and advisers joined in on the first ever investiture ceremony held virtually.<\/p>\n<p>The newly elected officers for the 2020-2021 academic year are Maia Pangelinan, president; Victoria Matsunaga, vice president; Hilaria Aldan, secretary; Alyssa Attao, treasurer; and Victoria Bellas, Reaven Cruz, and Joelin Mettao as senators.<\/p>\n<p>In her inaugural speech, Pangelinan said she and the officers will remain committed to the students of NMC. \u201cAs we all struggle to manage ourselves and the world around us, ASNMC is dedicated to creating new opportunities for our students to engage our community, build their skills, and speak freely in a safe space,\u201d Pangelinan said.<\/p>\n<p>Eliptico told the newly elected officers that he looks forward to seeing the great activities, events, advocacy work, and other efforts that they will accomplish. \u201cI want to thank you for continuing to have the passion and drive to serve our students as their voice and advocate in this academic year,\u201d Eliptico said. \u201cYou will have to reimagine and identify innovative and meaningful ways to engage our students, help them to navigate through tough current issues, and interact with our Proas in our new normal.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>ASNMC is a student-driven governance body at the college. Its executive Cabinet is composed of students who are elected at large by the student body and serve a one-year term in office.<\/p>\n<p>This year\u2019s student government elections took place on Sept. 21 and 22, 2020, and garnered a total of more than 300 voters virtually.<br \/>\nThe investiture ceremony can be viewed on the college\u2019s Facebook page at facebook.com\/nmc.proa.
