The session is free and open to the elderly in Guam and throughout Micronesia, as well as their family members and caregivers and students in the health, social work, or related fields.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOne\u00a0in\u00a0four older adults\u00a0experience\u00a0a fall every year.\u00a0Though common, there are many ways\u00a0to\u00a0prevent\u00a0falls, increasing the safety and independence of older adults,\u201d said Margaret Hattori-Uchima, dean of the UOG School of Health and co-project director of the Guam\/Micronesia Geriatrics Workforce Enhancement Program.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Participants will learn about common misconceptions about falling, risk factors that increase falls, and strategies to reduce falls. They will also be guided through the National Council on Aging\u2019s Falls Free Check-up, learn what to do in the event of a fall, and have an opportunity at the end for a Q&amp;A with Hattori-Uchima, who is a registered nurse who holds a doctorate in nursing.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The session aligns with Falls\u00a0Prevention\u00a0Week, promoted by the National Council on Aging in September to spread knowledge, awareness, and resources about the risk of falling and how to prevent\u00a0falls.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Those interested may register at\u00a0http:\/\/bit.ly\/FP102920.
