(MARK RABAGO)

One business that is definitely bucking the crisis brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic are grocery stores.

So it’s no wonder a new grocery store has suddenly cropped up on Saipan as August Supermarket opened last week along Kadena Di Amor Street at the back of Wild Bill’s in Garapan.

Owner Yuemei Chen said August Supermarket had a soft-opening last week and will have its grand opening this Friday, Oct. 30.

To attract customers, Chen said select items are on sale like rice, cold cuts, eggs, chicken, spare ribs and other meats, and beer at August Supermarket, which she named after her son, Augustine. Chen originally hails from Fujian, China and has called the CNMI home for the past 30 years.

August Supermarket was also obviously designed for the post-COVID-19 world as the aisles between shelves are very wide that lends to easy maneuvering of grocery carts. (MARK RABAGO)

Aside from food items, August Supermarket also has a large kitchen houseware section and blankets and pillows of all sizes, makes, and brands. Also impressive is the new store’s inventory of Power Wheels, which is a brand of battery-powered ride-on toy cars for kids ages 12 months to 7 years old.

The store was also obviously designed for the post-COVID-19 world as the aisles between shelves are very wide that lends to easy maneuvering of grocery carts. The ceiling is also pretty high so the store doesn’t convey the claustrophobic feel usually associated to small grocery stores on Saipan.

As far as following the Governor’s COVID-19 Task Force’s guidelines, Chen said all customers and staff are required to wear face marks, social distancing is strictly enforced, and hand sanitizers are available at the store’s entrance.

August Supermarket is located at the old YCO Hardware Building in Garapan and is open everyday from 6am to 11pm.

One business that is definitely bucking the crisis brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic are…

[11

post-332464","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-business
["GET
