{"id":332543,"date":"2020-10-30T06:03:10","date_gmt":"2020-10-29T20:03:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/?p=332543"},"modified":"2020-10-30T06:03:10","modified_gmt":"2020-10-29T20:03:10","slug":"tropical-depression-22w-upgraded-to-tropical-storm","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/tropical-depression-22w-upgraded-to-tropical-storm\/","title":{"rendered":"Tropical Depression 22W upgraded to Tropical Storm"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Tropical Depression 22W has strengthened and has been upgraded to Tropical Storm Goni as it continues en route to the Philippines. <\/p>\n<p>Tropical Depression 22W strengthened overnight and reached tropical storm intensity early yesterday morning. <\/p>\n<p>The National Weather Service in Tiyan, Guam, reported that Goni remains west of the Marianas and poses no threat as it tracks westward toward the Philippine. <\/p>\n<p>However, a tropical disturbance over Chuuk is still expected to pass south of Guam this weekend. <\/p>\n<p>NWS stated that people of the Marianas should expect the strongest winds associated with the disturbance to be offshore and south of Guam, and nearer to the low-level circulation. <\/p>\n<p>The Marianas will see winds gradually increase through Friday afternoon to between 15 and 20 mph, and to between 20 and 25 mph on Saturday with stronger gusts. <\/p>\n<p>Showers are expected to increase Friday afternoon and overnight across the region while seas could become hazardous to small craft by Saturday along with a high risk of rip currents.<\/p>\n<p>NWS stated that the broad and disorganized disturbance that they had been closely observing is beginning to show some consolidation over and south of Chuuk State. <\/p>\n<p>A low-level circulation was evident west southwest of Weno, Chuuk yesterday and was last seen heading slowly west, northwest.
