As a result of the COVID-19 pandemic and the precautionary measures that are being strictly enforced, the CNMI Department of Public Safety has seen a decline in the number of drug-related crimes. <\/p>\n
That\u2019s on top of a similar decline in the number of drug cases in the CNMI, according to DPS Commissioner Robert Guerrero in an interview. <\/p>\n
\u201cCriminal cases are really low. Drug cases are really low. Our officers are really vigilant in trying to keep our community safe and keep drugs off the streets,\u201d he said. <\/p>\n
Guerrero partially credits this to the current measures in place like the strict curfew, but also because the DPS Drug Enforcement Task force has been proactive in the fight against drugs. <\/p>\n
\u201cEven if you haven\u2019t seen [our drug force task force] on the streets, they\u2019re out there helping the community,\u201d he said. <\/p>\n
In a previous interview with Gov. Ralph DLG Torres, he said he is thankful for the work DPS has done in keeping the community safe in these trying times. \u201cI want to thank DPS. We are bombarded with different challenges and, with the crime rate down, it has helped families,\u201d he said. <\/p>\n
Torres added that it is the hard work of DPS and its officers that makes the CNMI a safe community. \u201cIt\u2019s all the hard work of our police officers, it makes our community much safer,\u201d he said. <\/p>\n
To make the job a little easier on the department, Torres is urging the public to step up and speak out about any crime they might know off, no matter how little they may seem. \u201cIf you see something, please report [it to the police]. If you can assist [solve] any crime, please contribute by giving information because every crime that we solve, it\u2019s one less worry for our department and our community. Whether it\u2019s murder, burglary, child abuse, child neglect, child molestation, whatever that crime is, if you know about a crime, no matter how small it might seem, please report and be part of the solution,\u201d he said. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
