{"id":334274,"date":"2020-12-01T06:00:51","date_gmt":"2020-11-30T20:00:51","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/?p=334274"},"modified":"2020-12-01T06:00:51","modified_gmt":"2020-11-30T20:00:51","slug":"16-7m-education-grant-aid-to-fsm-marshalls","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/16-7m-education-grant-aid-to-fsm-marshalls\/","title":{"rendered":"$16.7M education grant aid to FSM, Marshalls"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>WASHINGTON, D.C.\u2014The U.S. Department of the Interior\u2019s Office of Insular Affairs has awarded $16.7 million in fiscal year 2020 Supplement Education Grant assistance to the governments of the Federated States of Micronesia and the Republic of the Marshall Islands. <\/p>\n<p>The SEG assistance as provided for under the implementing legislation of the Compact of Free Association through the U.S. Department of Education supports the education sectors in both countries and was awarded for use during fiscal year 2021.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p> \u201cThe Interior and Education teams worked closely together to ensure that this assistance was awarded in a timely manner,\u201d said\u00a0DOI assistant secretary, Insular and International Affairs, Douglas W. Domenech. \u201cThese funds provide important support to teachers and students from pre-Kindergarten through post-secondary levels in both the FSM and in the RMI and are an example of the [Trump administration\u2019s] continued support to the freely associated states.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>More information about SEG assistance may be found in the U.S. Department of Education\u00a0budget\u00a0which is available on their website.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Under\u00a0U.S. Public Law 108-188, the eligibility for the FSM and the RMI to access SEG assistance expires after fiscal year 2023.
