(MCS)

Mount Carmel School senior Victoria Santos has earned a full-ride scholarship to attend Rice University next fall 2021. This achievement was made possible through the Quest Bridge college admissions organization.

Quest Bridge is a national non-profit organization that selects exceptional high school graduates from low-income communities. Part of its mission is to increase the percentage of low-income students attending the nation’s best colleges and to support them to achieve success in their careers and communities.

Rice University is a comprehensive research university dedicated to producing the next generation of leaders, generating bold research solutions, and advancing tomorrow’s thinking. Some of Rice University’s most notable graduates include Joyce Carol Oats, Shannon Walker, and Peggy Whitson.

“I’m still in shock that I was matched with Rice University,” said Santos. “My professional goal is to become a medical doctor and Rice University is a very prestigious research school. My only concern is if the pandemic greatly affects my academic plans, but either way, I’m going to work hard to do well.”

MCS counselor Tobed Smith said, “Victoria has worked so hard throughout the last four years and I’m so glad that Quest Bridge and the Rice University selection committee sees the same potential we see in her.”

MCS president Dr. Galvin Deleon Guerrero said, “Victoria Santos is definitely one of our most promising students. …It was a privilege to write a recommendation letter for her because, despite all the duties and responsibilities she has, she still remains humble, driven, and has an outstanding character.”

“I would like to thank Quest Bridge for this opportunity and my parents for their never-ending support,” said Santos. “I also need to thank my teachers at Mount Carmel School like Ms. Toby, Mr. Borja, and Dr. G. If it weren’t for my dedicated teachers and the available extracurriculars that MCS, I think earning this achievement would’ve been more difficult to accomplish.” (PR)

Mount Carmel School senior Victoria Santos has earned a full-ride scholarship to attend Rice University…

[4
1181
post-334641","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-local-news","tag-mcs
["GET
