The exhibition is the 15th in a biennial series of juried exhibits at Isla Center for the Arts.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe pandemic has pushed us to explore new platforms, and I am pleased that we are able to continue this series online,\u201d said Velma Yamashita, exhibit coordinator and director of the center.<\/p>\n<p>Selecting the theme and works to be featured was juror Jill Deupi, director and chief curator at the Lowe Art Museum at the University of Miami. She holds a bachelor\u2019s in political science and French literature from Mount Holyoke College (Mass.), a master\u2019s in art history from Birkbeck College\/University of London, a juris doctorate from American University (D.C.), a doctorate in art history from the University of Virginia, and a certificate in arts administration from New York University.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cServing as a juror is a tremendous responsibility, but it is an even greater privilege and pleasure,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>Among 205 submissions, Deupi selected 96 works by 26 artists.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat I saw confirmed my belief in the power of art,\u201d Deupi said. \u201cThe works I reviewed also introduced me to Guam, the beautiful muse of so many participating artists.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The selected works feature a variety of media, including prints, photography, collage, acrylic, watercolor and oil paintings, batik on silk, copper sculptures, wood carvings, and mixed media compositions.<\/p>\n<p>She named two pieces \u201cBest-in-Show\u201d:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\u201cAlternate Universe-Guam Textures Series\u201d by Dawn Lees Reyes<\/li>\n<li>\u201cPortrait of a Lady\u201d by John Dierking<\/li>\n<li>Additionally, seven works received honorable mentions:<\/li>\n<li>\u201cPatchwork Rooster\u201d by Elisa Dizon<\/li>\n<li>\u201cFisherman\u201d and \u201cTwo Girls\u201d by Don Seery<\/li>\n<li>\u201cLangasat\u201d and \u201cLes Danseuses Pago\u201d of the Guam Textures Series by Dawn Lees Reyes<\/li>\n<li>\u201cEric\u201d by John Dierking<\/li>\n<li>\u201cAfrique\u201d by Richard Olmo<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The online exhibition will be accessible until Feb. 26 at https:\/\/url.uog.edu\/creativehands.
