lots of fallen fruit out on the lawn.<\/p>\n<p>One Xmas morning it was quiet as a mouse<br \/>\nas we brought baby Jesus from house to house<br \/>\nsinging Christmas carols we ate bunelos dagu<br \/>\nthough twenty years ago I can still smell pagu<br \/>\nyan bulala titityas made by Mrs. Santa Claus.<\/p>\n<p>We walked to the guma yu&#8217;us mass at midnight<br \/>\nchurch decorations with palm fronds a delight<br \/>\ndown the chalan kaskao we heard happy noise<br \/>\nmaila fan baila dandan with Marpo Valley Boys<br \/>\nBaby Jesus in the manger was a wonderful sight<\/p>\n<p>A happy voice on our old truck radio<br \/>\nsays listen for the sleigh bells in the snow<br \/>\nbut I think the first thing that I heard<br \/>\nwas pounding hoofs of Santa\u2019s reindeer herd<br \/>\nas a Christmas crescendo began to grow.<\/p>\n<p>Of course there were all those silver bells<br \/>\nand all those delicious Xmas cookie smells<br \/>\nwhat I remember about the absolute most<br \/>\nwas the smell of a nearby island pig roast<br \/>\ncrispy skin and cheek fat in my brain dwells.<\/p>\n<p>All around the Xmas tree kitty chased a mouse<br \/>\nknocked the tree over and woke the whole house<br \/>\nwe put it back up adding a fresh popcorn string<br \/>\nsang songs that Tun Henry boy taught us to sing<br \/>\nand ate hard tack biscutsu baked by Santa\u2019s spouse.<\/p>\n<p>Seems like almost every year we got a Xmas rat<br \/>\nthat had a long tail and always looked quite fat<br \/>\nclimbing around sniffing goodies mother cooks<br \/>\nsticking a whiskered nose into crannies and nooks<br \/>\nand underneath the chair where Santa always sat. <\/p>\n<p> In upstate NY us brothers planted trees out back<br \/>\npulling young saplings out of the woods in a sack<br \/>\nthey were mostly blue spruce or red and white pine<br \/>\ntwelve years later they made Xmas trees quite fine<br \/>\nwe cut one then went in for a hot chocolate snack.<\/p>\n<p>Aunt Mary made garlands from small thread spools<br \/>\nwe tied them with ribbon and glued on glitter jewels<br \/>\nthen around the tree it went with strings of popcorn<br \/>\nin anticipation of some presents on Christmas morn<br \/>\nsmells from the kitchen brought out babies drools.<\/p>\n<p>A bearded man from the North Pole Santa Claus<br \/>\nreindeer pulled his sleigh with magic flying paws<br \/>\nbringing presents all around the world he would go<br \/>\nthrough typhoons tropical storms and ice and snow<br \/>\nwhile laughing with lots of ho ho hos and gee haws.<\/p>\n<p>A simple red and white peppermint candy cane<br \/>\nsweet memories of it are stuck inside my brain<br \/>\naround and around went those delicious stripes<br \/>\non my tongue mouth chewing down my pipes<br \/>\non my sticky fingers it left gooey red stains.<\/p>\n<p>I found a present underneath the Xmas tree<br \/>\nthat at the time meant the whole world to me<br \/>\nusually it was much needed warm clothes<br \/>\nof which those I could not turn up my nose<br \/>\nlove from Mom that all of us kids could see.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The village sighs in relief the typhoon is gone and here comes the sun on&#8230;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":11,"featured_media":327594,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[6],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-335676","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-opinion"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/335676","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/11"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=335676"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/335676\/revisions"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/327594"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=335676"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=335676"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=335676"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
