Finance Secretary David DLG Atalig said the CNMI government did spend \u201cquite a bit\u201d of money to keep the islands safe against the COVID-19 pandemic.<\/p>\n
Speaking at a radio news briefing last Thursday, Atalig did not provide figures but stated that those will be highlighted in a yearend report for fiscal year 2020 that he is finalizing. He intends to submit this report to Gov. Ralph DLG Torres and to the Legislature this week.<\/p>\n
\u201cBut just in a general sense, we did have a very challenging year, not only with COVID but also fiscally for our government,\u201d he said, adding that many people are out of jobs and are struggling and trying to survive.<\/p>\n
\u201cI will have details of my report released next week,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n
On the second stimulus package, Atalig said vaccinations for the entire community in the CNMI is being funded through this stimulus so they are looking into how much will go to the CNMI.<\/p>\n
He said they will work with Commonwealth Healthcare Corp. chief executive officer Esther Muna\u2019s team to see how much can they maximize and get from the millions of dollars allocated for vaccination, distribution, as well as the programs to get the community vaccinated.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
