The nursing program at the University of Guam\u2019s School of Health has received a $100,000 donation from TakeCare Insurance Co. The company has made the annual donation in support of the program for the past 19 years.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cThis is a terrific demonstration of partnership across Guam and the whole region,\u201d said UOG president Thomas W. Krise during a virtual donation ceremony on Dec. 23. \u201cWe\u2019re very proud of our students who are busy working in their rotations and serving on the frontline of this pandemic, so it\u2019s a real occasion for pride for me and the whole Triton community.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
Rose Grino, healthcare delivery administrator for FHP Health Center, which is part of TakeCare, said the pandemic has placed a spotlight on the need for nurses.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cAnd UOG has stepped up to respond,\u201d she said. \u201cIn graduating [UOG\u2019s nursing] Class of 2020 early\u2026those 26 students are out there in the hospitals and different health care settings being front-liners.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
The School of Health uses the TakeCare donation to fund the clinical portion of a student\u2019s nursing degree and capacity building in the nursing program by providing scholarships for faculty to obtain their doctorates. This year, it also funded an online review for students prior to taking the National Council Licensure Examination, or NCLEX. The review has contributed to UOG having a 100% NCLEX pass rate four years in a row.\u00a0<\/p>\n
