Donald Browne is keeping mum on reports about his resignation as chief executive officer of Imperial Pacific International (CNMI) LLC\u2014a position that he held for almost six months. <\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s complicated. I\u2019m sorry,\u201d was his only response over the weekend when Saipan Tribune asked why he resigned as CEO and if he is still working with IPI.<\/p>\n
An IPI staff confirmed yesterday that Browne has indeed resigned but that he is still an IPI employee. The staff did not specify what Browne\u2019s new role with IPI is.<\/p>\n
Separately, during a hearing at the U.S. District Court for the NMI on the lawsuit filed by the U.S Department of Labor against IPI, Browne informed the federal court that he is no longer the CEO of IPI since Dec. 17, 2020. It was not immediately learned why he has not separately confirmed this with the media.<\/p>\n
Browne used to serve as IPI\u2019s senior vice president for Security and Surveillance.<\/p>\n
IPI appointed him CEO effective July 17, 2020.<\/p>\n
U.S. District Court for the NMI Chief Judge Ramona V. Manglona recently ordered Browne and IPI chair Cui Li Jie to appear at the Jan. 21 hearing in connection with the U.S. Labor\u2019s lawsuit, with a warning that failure to appear may result in the issuance of a bench warrant for their arrest.<\/p>\n
Last Jan. 3, Browne led IPI\u2019s former and current employees in watching a 30-minute fireworks display in front of IPI\u2019s Imperial Pacific Resort building in western Garapan. <\/p>\n
Shortly before the fireworks show started, Brown said in an interview that the fireworks were a donation and that it is intended for their loyal employees and their families.<\/p>\n
He also disclosed a recent infusion of $2.3 million into the company\u2019s funds and that this will take care of IPI employees\u2019 six payrolls.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
