{"id":338362,"date":"2021-02-12T06:05:44","date_gmt":"2021-02-11T20:05:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/?p=338362"},"modified":"2021-02-12T06:05:44","modified_gmt":"2021-02-11T20:05:44","slug":"cost-analysis-okd-for-school-execs-salary-hike","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/cost-analysis-okd-for-school-execs-salary-hike\/","title":{"rendered":"Cost analysis OK\u2019d for school execs\u2019 salary hike"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Almost two weeks after the 17th State of Board of Education unanimously voted to restore 80 work hours for Public School Systems employees, teachers, and staff, the BOE approved yesterday the analysis of how much it would cost the system if the salaries of principals and vice principals are also adjusted.<\/p>\n<p>Three of the four voting members that were present at the meeting approved the cost analysis for the salary adjustments, which brings PSS principals and vice principals a step closer to getting a salary increase, which has not happened since 25 years ago.<\/p>\n<p>The three who approved the cost analysis were BOE members Greg Borja and Antonio L. Borja and BOE chair Andrew L. Orsini. BOE vice chair Herman Atalig excused himself from voting, citing a conflict of interest. <\/p>\n<p>Saipan Tribune learned that PSS is looking at increasing the salaries of principals and vice principals using federal funds, although it was not clear as to which federal funds will the source of the increase.<\/p>\n<p>According to a presentation from Lucretia B. Deleon Guerrero, who is director of the PSS Human Resources Office, the proposed increase for the salaries of principals and vice principals, tier 1,would boost salaries from $45,000 to $55,000 per annum, VP1 with four years of experience from $55,000 to $60,000, VP, tier 2, from $50,000 to $60,000, and VP2 with more than four years\u2019 experience, from $60,000  to $65,000.<\/p>\n<p>Deleon Guerrero confirmed that PSS has a total of 20 principals and 18 vice principals\u2014for a total of 38 individuals who will get an increase.<\/p>\n<p>Deleon Guerrero said that all principals and vice principals will be paid using federal funds.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c\u2026It is high time right now that we are able to provide an additional compensation\u2026just a small bump to compensate them for overseeing the day-to-day operations during COVID-19 time and, not only that but they also oversee the day-to-day operation of online learning and blended learning,\u201d said Deleon Guerrero.<\/p>\n<p>Orsini confirmed at the meeting that the implementation of the new salary adjustments for principals and vice principals will be effective Feb. 1.<\/p>\n<p>BOE recently unanimously voted last Jan. 28 to restore the work hours of PSS employees, teachers, and staff who were making 64 hours back to 80 hours.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Almost two weeks after the 17th State of Board of Education unanimously voted to restore&#8230;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":33,"featured_media":338421,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[4],"tags":[309],"class_list":["post-338362","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-local-news","tag-ok"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/338362","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/33"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=338362"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/338362\/revisions"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/338421"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=338362"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=338362"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=338362"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
