Delegate Gregorio Kilili C. Sablan (Ind-MP) said over the weekend that the U.S. House Ways and Means Committee has agreed with President Joe Biden\u2019s commitment for a total direct payment to taxpayers of $2,000 by adding $1,400 to the $600 in the December relief package. <\/p>\n
Since the last week of January 2021, taxpayers have started receiving the $600 economic impact payments, also known as the second stimulus. <\/p>\n
The U.S. Department of Treasury approved the CNMI 2020 Recovery Rebate Credit and Second Economic Impact Payments Plan for $41.3 million. <\/p>\n
In his e-kilili newsletter, Sablan also disclosed that the same committee approved last Thursday a section of the American Rescue Plan that extends through Aug. 29, 2021, the Pandemic Unemployment Assistance with a $345 weekly minimum, and Federal Pandemic Unemployment Compensation that is raised to $400 weekly.<\/p>\n
At the same time, the committee increased the Child Tax Credit from $2,000 to $3,600 for each child under 6 years of age and to $3,000 for each child up to age 18.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe federal government already covers 100% of the cost of the Child Tax Credit in the Marianas,\u201d said Sablan, noting that the committee, however, agreed to add 100% reimbursement to the Earned Income Tax Credit for working families in the Marianas to the Democrats American Rescue Plan, as well, consistent with legislation that he first introduced in 2015.<\/p>\n
He said the House passed his 100% EITC reimbursement but the Trump administration blocked it in the Senate with a veto threat. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
