(Neil Fama)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Over 50 parents in the CNMI were recognized as \u201cparent leaders of 2021\u201d at the proclamation signing of the 17th CNMI Parent Leadership Month at the Kagman Community Center last Friday, Feb. 12.  <\/p>\n<p>The proclamation, which was read by parent leader Suzie Torres and signed by Lt. Gov. Arnold I. Palacios, also marked the 52nd anniversary of Parents Anonymous Inc., the premier family strengthening outlet that\u2019s dedicated to the prevention of child abuse and neglect.<\/p>\n<p>According to the proclamation, meaningful\u00a0parent\u00a0leadership\u00a0occurs \u201cwhen\u00a0parents gain the knowledge and skills necessary to function in meaningful leadership roles and present a\u00a0\u201cParent\u00a0Voice\u201d\u00a0to help shape the direction families, programs and communities take; and that parent\u00a0leadership\u00a0is successfully achieved when\u00a0parents receive the support and training in addition to shared responsibility, expertise and\u00a0leadership\u00a0in the planning, implementation, assessment and evaluation of policies, practices, and programs affecting families and communities.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt takes all of us as a village to raise a child,\u201d said parent leader John Oliver DLR Gonzales, who spoke at the event. He recounted his experiences while growing up that \u201cthe neighbors were culturally authorized to discipline us. Houses were open, we were able to eat in their homes, they were able to eat at ours.
