(Photos by MARK RABAGO)

Unlike most bargain stores, Casa Décor swears by the quality of the product it sells. Also unlike high-end furniture shops on Saipan, customers of Casa Décor don’t need to break the bank to buy the excellent pieces they need for their homes.

And as a big thank you to the island community, the one-year-old furniture shop between Bank of Hawaii and LJ’s Grocery along Middle Road is having an anniversary sale where most items are 20% off and select items can be had at 30-40% discount.

Casa Décor was established in October 2019 after its owner had difficulty obtaining good quality but not ridiculously priced furniture in the local market.

During this eureka moment, he thought, “If I’m having a hard time buying the good quality furniture I want at the price I can afford, others may also be having the same experience. Why not open a furniture to cater to all our needs then?”

Fortunately, Casa Décor found itself a good furniture supplier from the onset and this made the furniture shop a sort of go-to place not only for private residents but also many island businesses that are upgrading their interiors.

“On Saipan 80-90% of retailers and wholesalers get their supplies from China. It all depends on sourcing. If you find a good supplier, of course you’ll get good products,” the owner said. “Since we opened a year and a couple of months ago, we’ve always been known for our good quality furniture. We have affordable prices and in terms of quality we have everyone beat.”

Case Décor recently received its shipment of ornate interior LED lights.

Like other businesses on island, Casa Décor also had had its share of COVID-19 horror stories, as the pandemic forced it to operate for only 3-4 hours a day that drastically hurt its bottom line.

“We were only open in the mornings and though only a few customers were coming in we still kept ourselves open because we wanted to maintain our service for the people,” the owner said.

That began to change when the Governor’s COVID-19 Task Force lifted restrictions and lowered the Community Alert Level to Code Blue in the middle of last year. Casa Décor also got a bit of windfall from the stimulus and Pandemic Unemployment Assistance and Federal Pandemic Unemployment Compensation money that started coming in.

“Business started recovering when PUA, FPUC, and stimulus checks began flowing to the CNMI. People again made purchases but still not at pre-COVID-19 levels yet.”

Aside from being a furniture shop, Casa Décor is also a hardware store and sells mostly finishing products like toilet, bathrooms cabinets, tiles, mirrors with lights, fans, and even pots for plants.

Recently, Casa Décor received its long-awaited order for home LED lights that serve more as chandeliers than home illumination.

“We’ve been open for more than a year already but some people still don’t know about our shop. Our new and very ornate LED lights hopefully will address the problem as we plan to display them near our windows so it can attract new customers,” the owner said.

Casa Décor’s customers may be few compared to other furniture stores on Saipan, but it’s definitely a very loyal and growing list.

“Customers that do come eventually become repeat customers and even recommend us to their family and friends. Everything we sell here we want our customers to be very satisfied because of the quality and the thought that we gave them something good to buy and enjoy.”

Casa Décor is open from 9am and 5pm Monday-Saturday and from 9am and 12:30pm on Sunday.
