The Commonwealth Utilities Corp. board of directors unanimously voted last Friday to extend the employment contract of CUC executive director Gary Camacho for another two years.<\/p>\n
CUC board chair Miranda Manglona said that they discussed Camacho\u2019s performance in the last two years and came to a unanimous decision at the board meeting to keep him on board.<\/p>\n
\u201cEach [board member] was given the opportunity to address [Camacho\u2019s] performance. \u2026Each director has their own opinion, his or her feeling\u2026[and] it all had to do with his performance,\u201d said Manglona.<\/p>\n
She said that Camacho\u2019s performance when dealing with the challenges created by the COVID-19 pandemic, Super Typhoon Yutu, and Typhoon Soudelor has proven to the board that is fit for the job.<\/p>\n
\u201cHe never underestimates them. He always makes sure that it\u2019s a priority to the community that services are not cut off, that the community is the No. 1 priority for the corporation, and the services that we continue to provide are there,\u201d said Manglona.<\/p>\n
In a separate interview with Camacho, he said he is appreciative of the board\u2019s support. \u201cFirst of all, I appreciate the support from the board\u2026it\u2019s wonderful. We\u2019ve done a lot of things over the last few years, consistent with the 24-hour water. \u2026We continue to become better [and] we continue to replace or repair our infrastructure,\u201d said Camacho.<\/p>\n
According to him, there are many things to look forward to this year, including their master plan and upgrading CUC\u2019s policies.<\/p>\n
\u201cThere\u2019s a lot of work right now, and I greatly appreciate all the support from the board members and the support from our community. It\u2019s a very difficult time but I\u2019ve got a great staff,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Camacho describes his staff as the \u201cbest group of people\u201d anybody can work with\u2014professional, hardworking, and committed to assisting and helping the community.<\/p>\n
