A man was allegedly caught illegally dumping multiple garbage bags in Koblerville in a video clip that was shared on social media and quickly went viral this past weekend.<\/p>\n
The man who took the video explained to those watching that he and his wife were just returning home from a nearby church, when they saw the male individual, initially thinking he was helping clean up the area. Shortly after, it became apparent to them that he was actually littering. The man\u2019s face, vehicle license plate, and trash bags were all caught on video. The man was then reported by a community member to the authorities. <\/p>\n
Members of the CNMI Department of Public Safety arrived at the location to clean up the illegally thrown garbage, which were found hidden among the tall grass, which could also be seen in the viral video.<\/p>\n
Following the incident, the CNMI Governor\u2019s Council of Economic Adviser issued a statement to reiterate the idea of a universal garbage collection system in the CNMI as a means to prevent further illegal dumping.<\/p>\n
\u201cIllegal dumping and littering are serious community issues. This incident is one of many that has prompted the GCEA to explore the concept of universal garbage collection for the CNMI. We believe that an established program with ongoing education and enforcement of the anti-littering law will help about a positive resolution to these issues,\u201d the statement says.<\/p>\n

As seen in our Public Private Partnership program, it is important to work together as a community to improve our island and protect our natural resources. Let\u2019s remember that this is our home, and we should take pride in keeping it clean.\u201d<\/p>\n
