The newly formed Marianas Sailing Club will be holding a free sailing clinic at the eighth annual Tinian Hot Pepper Festival this Saturday.<\/p>\n
The group will set up on the beach west of Tinian Port, with their 8-foot El Toro sailing dinghies for the free sailing clinic that will be held from 11am to 3pm.<\/p>\n
According to club commodore David E. Johansen, the group intends to sail from Saipan with three 25-foot sailboats carrying approximately 20 people, arriving on Tinian Saturday morning.<\/p>\n
The sailing clinic requires that sailors know how to swim to participate and are wearing a personal floatation device. The group will have some loaner flotation devices for those who do not have this equipment. The usual clinic involves a short water safety lecture and capsize\/self rescue drills before the sailor is on his own.<\/p>\n
The group will also bring some kayaks for rescue\/water safety patrol in order to maintain the perimeter of the clinic.<\/p>\n
The sailing clinic is free for anyone interested. For those who want to join the club, the annual dues are $25 for a single adult person or $40 per family unit.
