Delegate Gregorio Kilili C. Sablan (Ind-MP) invites high school students in the Northern Mariana Islands to participate in the 13th annual Congressional Art Competition for a chance to have their artwork publicly displayed at the U.S. Capitol for one year. <\/p>\n
\u201cSince the competition began in 2009, millions of people have seen the acclaimed work of the Northern Marianas\u2019 talented young artists,\u201d Sablan said. \u201cI encourage students to showcase their work to the world and discover something new about themselves along the way.\u201d<\/p>\n
The art competition is free and open to all high school students. Students have until Friday, April 23, 2021, to submit their artwork via an electronic form link on Sablan\u2019s website. <\/p>\n
Congressional Art Competition rules require that submitted artwork be original, two-dimensional works. Eligible artwork includes paintings, drawings, collages, prints, mixed media art, computer-generated art, and photography. Artwork must also be suitable for public display. <\/p>\n
This year\u2019s submissions will be judged based on originality, technical difficulty, creativity, communication, effectiveness, and overall appearance. A panel of local artists will select the winning entry.<\/p>\n
Aside from having their work displayed in the Capitol, the winner will also be invited to the national reception, usually held in Washington D.C.<\/p>\n
