So we asked them what their experience has been so far and what learning method they prefer.

“I much preferred virtual learning only. I feel like I’m risking my life every time I physically go on campus, plus taking only online classes makes for a much more flexible schedule.”
—Mike Oxlong, Marianas High School

“With blended learning I feel like I don’t really have enough time, and I’m uncomfortable with everyone not using masks. I prefer going back to virtual learning rather than face-to-face learning.”
—Vivien Liu, Marianas High School

“I can learn virtually, but the experience isn’t good enough. I much rather have face-to-face classes completely back, so that my assignments can get proper feedback from my instructor. Plus, I would have an easier time observing and analyzing my group mates for our Psychological Profile assignment.”
—Jaehoon Son, Marianas High School

“I know that most students are leaning more toward face-to-face because they want to see their friends and I know many people who say they learn better in a face-to-face environment. I’m personally feeling a bit ambivalent, but I think I’m an unusual case because I learn equally, if not more by myself, so I actually don’t mind online classes from an academic perspective. In terms of safety, there were some teachers not even wearing masks, which is concerning, but for me, it isn’t that big of a deal. I think it’s better to be safe than sorry, but I would understand if other students prefer face-to-face and I don’t mind either too much. …Some students I know think it [virtual classes] is okay because they ‘aren’t going to die,’ but I don’t think that’s the point of remote learning. I think the policies were set in place to cease spreading the virus itself so I think just because the result of more community spread is so massive, it might be better to continue remote learning. But, if they resume face-to-face learning, I would attend regardless because I wouldn’t want to miss out on coursework.”
—One An, Marianas High School

“I prefer online class because I have more freedom and am a bit concerned about going face-to-face due to the pandemic.”
—Byul An, Saipan Community School

“I’d rather stick to online because I’m more comfortable with it.”
—Hui An, Saipan Community School

“I prefer on-campus learning because I like the feeling of being more involved or engaged in physical interactions, and actually feel like I am learning.”
—Glaine Cepeda, Marianas High School

Neil Fama
neil_fama@saipantribune.com
REPORTER

Students transitioned this week from remote (online) classes to blended learning—a combination of online and…

[4
1772,12479,5987
post-341338","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-local-news","tag-marianas-high-school","tag-neil-fama","tag-saipan-community-school
["GET
