Sablan (Ind-MP) said over the weekend that the Federal Emergency Management Assistance will help with funeral expenses due to COVID-19 deaths by April 12, 2021. <\/p>\n<p>In his e-kilili newsletter, Sablan said FEMA announced last Saturday that such assistance is available for funerals that took place in the United States after Jan. 20, 2020.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAn applicant for assistance must be a U.S. citizen, non-citizen national, or qualified alien,\u201d the delegate said.<\/p>\n<p>There were two reported deaths from COVID-19 in the CNMI. The first happened on March 30, 2020, at the Kanoa Resort quarantine site, while the second was on April 7, 2020 at the Commonwealth Healthcare Corp. <\/p>\n<p>Sablan said that multiple individuals who contributed to foot the expenses must file under one application. Assistance is limited to a maximum amount of $9,000 per funeral and a maximum of $35,000 per application.<\/p>\n<p>FEMA encourages potential applicants to gather documentation that will be needed for the claim, such as official death certificate indicating death \u201cmay have been caused by\u201d or \u201cwas likely the result of\u201d COVID-19 or COVID-19-like symptoms and funeral expense receipts.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Delegate Gregorio Kilili C.
