Sutherland<br \/>\nReporter<\/div>\n<p>The Garapan Community Development Center will be hosting a girls basketball league open to female players up to 17 years old starting tonight at the Garapan Basketball Court.<\/p>\n<p>Four teams are already confirmed and slots are still available; there is no entrance fee to participate.<\/p>\n<p>Friday&#8217;s action starts at 5:30pm with the Lady Barracudas taking on the Lady Manta Rays, followed by the Lady Sharks against Lady Dolphins at 6:30pm. The other matchups are yet to be determined.<\/p>\n<p>Originally slated as a two-round tournament, organizers decided to extend the league through early May as a way to celebrate the GCDC&#8217;s first anniversary.<\/p>\n<p>The purpose of the five-on-five full court event is to promote the overall development of young female players.<\/p>\n<p>The event serves as good practice for a number of up and coming female players that very well be representing the CNMI in the highly-anticipated Micronesian Basketball Tournament, which will be hosted on Saipan in June this year.<\/p>\n<p>Trophies will be awarded to Top 2 place finishers.<\/p>\n<p>The timely presence of all teams are requested as this Friday&#8217;s opening matchups will be randomly determined.<\/p>\n<p>To register or for more information, stop by the GCDC office located behind Garapan Basketball Court or call 233-8978.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Walter J.
