More than 45 parents, students, and community members attended the Saipan Zoning Office\u2019s public outreach on Monday, May 6, at Chacha Oceanview Junior High School in Kagman.<\/p>\n
While community members and residents flocked to the event, representatives of Saipan businesses have yet to attend the public outreach.<\/p>\n
Zoning administrator Therese Ogumoro led the presentation on Saipan Zoning Law of 2013 in an effort to educate residents and businesses alike. According to Ogumoro, the new zoning law has jurisdictions over Saipan and Managaha, but not on Rota and Tinian. <\/p>\n
The Saipan Zoning Law of 2013 was passed and signed by Gov. Eloy S. Inos on July 15, 2013.<\/p>\n
Ogumoro said the zoning law has been updated twice since its first inception in 2006. It includes \u201cmajor rezones\u201d on Saipan such as major roadways and thoroughfares. She focused her discussion Monday specifically on Kagman.<\/p>\n
\u201cIn the intersection beginning near Kagman Mobil gas station and the Camacho lands, properties have been rezoned to mixed commercial,\u201d Ogumoro said. <\/p>\n
She said the main road leading to Kagman near the gas station and about 300 feet from the \u201ccenter of the road\u201d both north and south areas have been zoned as village commercial.<\/p>\n
Following the village commercial zone, the area around Santa Lourdes Church and across is an agricultural region, and is the only agricultural zoning district on Saipan.<\/p>\n
Community members also asked about other areas of Kagman and whether violations of the law have occurred on Kagman.<\/p>\n
Ogumoro said that inspections are still ongoing, but noted that some have violated several sections of the zoning law.<\/p>\n
