The time of the annual Shoreline Casting Tournament has come and gone, postponed by the most recent flare-up of COVID-19 here on Saipan, but the Tasi to Table fishing club won\u2019t stop casting around for a good event. <\/p>\n
Instead of the regular shoreline competition, typically open to adult and youth competitors, the Tasi to Table fishing club will be putting on a Shallow Bottom Youth Tournament for its junior members. <\/p>\n
This Saturday, May 8, a total of 22 of TTT\u2019s youth members, from all four of Saipan\u2019s public high schools, will gather early in the morning at Smiling Cove Marina. <\/p>\n
The tournament begins at 6an, when they launch from the transient dock, ready to spend the day fighting the sea, and hopefully bringing home some delicious trophies of their victory. The tournament will conclude by noon, when the Tasi to Table fishing club will return to shore. The day\u2019s catch will be weighed, and awards handed out to the most successful of the young fishers. <\/p>\n
Wayne Pangelinan, TTT vice president and organizer for the event, can hardly wait. \u201cThere\u2019s a 48-footer that\u2019s going to be taking the kids out, they\u2019re all going to compete on that boat,\u201d he told me. \u201cIt\u2019ll be perfect. You\u2019ll get some first-hand experience\u2014and hopefully some fish as well!\u201d <\/p>\n
Pangelinan will be following in a service vessel\u2014safety first, after all!\u2014while club advisors from the high-schools will manage the event on-site. <\/p>\n
