An inmate serving a life sentence for kidnapping and attempted murder allegedly stabbed a female visitor with a toothbrush at the Department of Corrections in Susupe on Sunday afternoon. <\/p>\n
Multiple sources disclosed that inmate Gerald Sablan attacked the female visitor inside DOC\u2019s visitation area and that the victim was injured and taken to the Commonwealth Health Center.<\/p>\n
Lt. Jose Castro of DOC\u2019s Professional Standards Unit confirmed with Saipan Tribune yesterday that Sablan assaulted the female visitor with a toothbrush.<\/p>\n
Castro said the victim was injured and was taken by medics to CHC.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe issue is still under investigation both by the Department of Public Safety and DOC,\u201d Castro said.<\/p>\n
He said DOC officers responded and subsequently subdued Sablan.<\/p>\n
The lieutenant said he could not elaborate because he needs to find out who were there in the visitation area and who witnessed the incident.<\/p>\n
\u201cUntil such time we get information then we will release the full information. We\u2019re not going to hide anything,\u201d Castro said.<\/p>\n
A source said the victim visited her boyfriend at DOC and she told him she was leaving for Guam.<\/p>\n
Sablan then allegedly stabbed the victim with a toothbrush.<\/p>\n
It was not clear whether the victim is Sablan\u2019s girlfriend.<\/p>\n
In 2006, the Superior Court sentenced Sablan to life in prison for the kidnapping and attempted murder of a gas attendant in 2005.<\/p>\n
