Commander Eugene Chung spoke about the USCG’s many career opportunities as guest speaker during the Tasi to Table Rota’s second official club meeting last Saturday at the Rota Mayor’s Office conference room.

Chung, who has been with the U.S. Coast Guard for nearly 14 years now, also shared with TTT Rota’s young club members some of his past experiences since joining the Coast Guard, according to Tasi to Table’s May 15 newsletter.

In addition to recalling his times stationed in various parts of the world and his past days out in the open ocean searching for illegal fishermen and drug smugglers, Chung also provided insight on how upwards mobility within the Coast Guard works. “[Like in] high school, you start as a freshman. You are starting at the bottom and work your way up to being a senior. Same concept applies with the Coast Guard. You work your way up and while the years pass, you keep moving forward. Eventually you get promoted in your rank like you do with being in school,” said Chung.

Chung also shared with the club members the Coast Guard’s recent receipt of a vessel that will be used in the CNMI and Guam. The boat is equipped with the latest technology, and will be used for patrolling and ensuring civilian boater safety in the region.

TTT Rota’s next meeting will be on June 19, where TTT will present to the club members their own rods and reels. TTT members, TTT board chairs, Rota Mayor Efraim M. Atalig, members of the Rota Municipal Council, and Rota’s senators are all expected to be in attendance.

U.S. Coast Guard Lt.
