Tasi to Table\u2019s Tinian and Rota chapters both just had busy weekends, with Rota\u2019s members participating in a coastal cleanup and a lure-tying class last Saturday, while Tinian\u2019s members welcomed guest speakers from the U.S. Coast Guard, Department of Public Safety Boating Division, the Western Pacific Regional Fishery Management Council, and the Bureau of Environmental and Coastal Quality.<\/p>\n

Under the guidance of TTT Rota advisers Larry Hocog and Inas Lizama Jr., Rota’s student members picked up trash from Pinatang Park to the West Harbor. Afterward, Lizama sat with the students and taught them lure-tying techniques. The group ended their day with a barbecue for lunch.<\/p>\n

On Tinian, TTT welcomed multiple guests to present on their respective topics of interest at the Tinian Jr.\/Sr. High School cafeteria. Among those guests was Coast Guard Lt. Cmdr. Eugene Chung, who did a presentation similar to when he was welcomed as a guest by TTT Rota two weeks ago, and Michael Barcinas from the DPS Boating Division, who welcomed students aboard a vessel for a hands-on lesson on boating safety.<\/p>\n

TTT president Gene Weaver spoke on the importance of keeping all of the organization\u2019s student members engaged: \u201cKeeping the club active is an integral part to ensuring we keep momentum going. \u2026Our [advisers] on Rota, Tinian, and Saipan each take it upon themselves to come up with activities that support our environment [and] learning and building skills,\u201d said Weaver.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are hopeful that we will be able to sustain [collaborations] and continuously build on the program for our islands\u2019 youth,\u201d said TTT vice president Wayne Pangelinan, who also thanked TTT\u2019s private business partners for their continued support, including the Bank of Saipan, Fishing Tackle & Sporting Goods, IT&E, the Robert Torres Law Office, Mobil Oil Marianas, and McDonald\u2019s Saipan.<\/p>\n

Gov. Ralph DLG Torres and Lt. Gov. Arnold I. Palacios, the Department of Lands & Natural Resources, the Rota Mayor\u2019s Office, the Rota Municipal Council, the Tinian Mayor\u2019s Office, the CNMI Public School System, and funding from Tinian\u2019s allocated tobacco tax funds all played their parts in making TTT programs on Rota and Tinian possible.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
