Participants will learn effective ways to support persons with dementia who are feeling confused, frustrated, scared, or angry and how to respond when persons with dementia exhibit behavior that is disruptive or aggressive.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The program includes four modules that participants can complete on either Wednesdays from 6pm to 8pm or Saturdays from 10am to noon according to the following schedule:\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Module 1 \u2013\u00a0Introduction to Dementia-Related Behavior:<br \/>\n\u2022 6pm \u2013 8pm, Wednesday, June 2, or\u00a0<br \/>\n\u2022 10am \u2013 noon, Saturday, June 5\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Module 2 \u2013\u00a0Using the\u00a0CARES\u00a0Approach with Dementia-Related Behavior:\u00a0<br \/>\n\u2022 6pm \u2013 8pm, Wednesday, June 9, or\u00a0\u00a0<br \/>\n\u2022 10am \u2013 noon, Saturday, June 12\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Module 3 \u2013\u00a0Breaking Down the\u00a0CARES\u00ae\u00a0Approach for Dementia-Related Behavior:\u00a0<br \/>\n\u2022 6pm \u2013 8pm, Wednesday, June 16, or\u00a0\u00a0<br \/>\n\u2022 10am \u2013 noon, Saturday, June 19<\/p>\n<p>Module 4 \u2013\u00a0Key Responses to Dementia-Related Behavior:\u00a0\u00a0<br \/>\n\u2022 6pm \u2013 8pm, Wednesday, June 23, or\u00a0\u00a0<br \/>\n\u2022 10am \u2013 noon, Saturday, June 26\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Participants who complete all four modules will receive a certificate of completion and will be eligible for CARES\u00a0Dementia Certification.\u00a0<br \/>\nCARES\u00a0was created by HealthCare Interactive, an organization that specializes in online training for caregivers of persons with Alzheimer\u2019s disease and other forms of dementia. All of the\u00a0CARES\u00a0training programs were developed in collaboration with the Alzheimer\u2019s Association and include evidence-based strategies\u00a0grounded in the Alzheimer\u2019s Association Dementia Care Practice Recommendations.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>Support group sessions throughout 2021 <\/strong>\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The CARES Dementia-Related Behavior\u00a0training sessions are part of\u00a0Isa\u2019s ongoing online support groups for family caregivers of persons with dementia being conducted in collaboration with the UOG School of Health\u2019s Guam\/Micronesia Geriatrics Workforce Enhancement Program. Support group sessions will be held remotely on Zoom year-round in 2021. The sessions are free of charge to partners, family members, and other caregivers of persons with dementia who live in or have ties to Guam and the Micronesian region.<\/p>\n<p><strong>What to expect\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>All support groups are client-centered and confidential. They provide a safe place to share the stresses and challenges, successes, and rewards of caring for a loved one with dementia with others who may be going through similar experiences.
