Esmores)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Cody Shimizu managed to land first place overall in the boys U16 singles category of the 2021 Bridge Capital Tennis Classic tournament that concluded last Sunday. <\/p>\n<p>During the round-robin tournament last weekend, Shimizu tied with June Yu for first place with each holding a win-loss standing of 3-1. However, the deciding factor was the head-to-head battle between the two where Shimizu came out the victor. <\/p>\n<p>In the fight to determine first place, Shimizu won the first set over Yu, 6-4, before losing the second set 2-6. Finally, In the super-tiebreaker third set, Shimizu outplayed Yu with a 10-6 victory. <\/p>\n<p>The champion also won its match against Wataru Kadokura, 6-4, 6-2, and his match against Min Seoung Kim, 4-2, 5-3. <\/p>\n<p>Shimizu\u2019s only loss of the day was against Nason Wessel with the latter sweeping both sets, 4-6, 6-7 (5). <\/p>\n<p>Runner-up Yu swept its match against Kadokura, taking a 5-4, 4-2 victory. He moved on to beat Wessel by a super-tiebreaker third set. Yu started off weak, losing 4-6, but he eventually gained momentum in the second set, 6-0, before ultimately beating his foe in the third set, 11-9. <\/p>\n<p>In his final match against Kim, Yu edged out the competition 7-6 (1), 6-0. <\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, also tied for third was Kadokura and Wessel with win-loss standings of 2-2. Kadokura eventually beat Wessel in their match, 6-4, 6-2, to land Top 3. <\/p>\n<p>Kadokura also defeated Kim last weekend, 6-2, 6-2. <\/p>\n<p>Wessel, despite landing fourth place, was the only individual to best division champ Shimizu, 6-4, 7-6 (5). He also defeated Kim through a super-tiebreaker third set, taking the first set, 6-4, before losing the second 4-6. Finally, in the third set, he redeemed himself, 10-5. <\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, in the boys U10 singles, Quido Jambor landed first place with a win-loss record of 2-0. He first beat Eliza Culp, 5-3, 4-2, before moving on to best Seungwoo Lee, 4-2, 4-1. <\/p>\n<p>Runner-up Lee won one match that day against Culp, taking a 4-2, 4-1 victory.<\/p>\n<p>In the boys U18 singles, Jimin Woo was named the division champion after sweeping all his matches. <\/p>\n<p>He first took a 4-0, 4-2 victory over Andy Kim before moving on to defeat Jun Wang, 6-1, 6-2. In the following match against David Kwon, the champ won 6-1, 6-2. Later in the match against Serin Chung, Woo came out on top, 6-0, 6-0.
