Ra\u00fal M. Grijalva (D-Ariz.), who chairs the House Natural Resources Committee in the U.S. Congress, released the following statement yesterday on the need for a legislative solution to the unequal access to federal benefits for U.S. citizens and U.S. nationals living in the insular territories.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cGiven the administration\u2019s\u00a0announcement today\u00a0that it will appeal\u00a0U.S. v. Vaello Madero\u00a0to the Supreme Court, the Natural Resources Committee will redouble its efforts to work with other committees of jurisdiction to expand access to Supplemental Security Income and other federal programs for residents of U.S. Territories.\u00a0I have urged\u00a0the new administration to guarantee\u00a0equity in federal programs\u00a0to Americans living in these jurisdictions, and today\u2019s announcement has done nothing to change my conviction that a permanent solution is necessary.
