(CONTRIBUTED PHOTO)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The Ohala Foundation successfully launched its first Rota food distribution program last June 3, with more than 25 volunteers from Rota and Tinian coming together to sort, pack, and distribute the food to more than 300 people at the Eskuelan San Francisco De Borja.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is our 16th\u00a0food drive, and the first to be held on Rota,\u201d said Ohala Foundation chair Phillip Mendiola-Long. \u201cThe distribution had a huge local impact and we\u2019re so happy with the love and support the island of Rota has shown us and we\u2019re extremely grateful for the donations from the people and companies [on] Saipan that made it possible for us to collect over 9,000 lbs of food and clothing for our sister island.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He said the event\u2019s success has spurred them to raise more funds, with the intention to get back to Rota to expand the foundation\u2019s programs while eventually launching its Saipan programs later this year.<\/p>\n<p>The foundation acknowledges the following individuals and companies for their time and donations: Rota Mayor\u2019s Office, Rota Department of Community and Cultural Affairs, Fr. Rey Rosal and the Rota Church, captains Ivan Ilmov and Jack Barcinas for transporting the goods, Micronesian Brokers Inc., D&amp;Q, Marpac, Herman\u2019s Modern Bakery, Yaong Wholesale, Highway Express, Jovita Demapan, Dave Cabrera, Julie Ogo, Marco Pua and the Division of Parks and Recreation.<\/p>\n<p>Interested donors can reach out to the foundation by visiting\u00a0ohalafoundation.org\u00a0or by calling (670) 433-2664.
