{"id":347173,"date":"2021-07-02T06:06:39","date_gmt":"2021-07-01T20:06:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/?p=347173"},"modified":"2021-07-02T06:06:39","modified_gmt":"2021-07-01T20:06:39","slug":"tsunami-saipan-nominate-4-for-qualifiers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/tsunami-saipan-nominate-4-for-qualifiers\/","title":{"rendered":"Tsunami Saipan nominates 4 for qualifiers"},"content":{"rendered":"<figure id=\"attachment_347229\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-347229\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-347229\" src=\"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/Tsunami-pix-Tenorio-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"311\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-347229\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Juhn Tenorio<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Swimming Center Tsunami Saipan has nominated four members to represent the team in the qualifiers for the 2021 FINA World Championships in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates this coming December.<\/p>\n<p>Tsunami Saipan coach Hiro Kimura has picked Juhn Tenorio, Jinnosuke Suzuki, Aoi Braxton, and Shoko Litulumar to swim in the 1,000m open water swim set for July 10 that will serve as the first of three qualifiers for the FINA World Championships.<\/p>\n<p>Aside from July 10, the Saipan Swim Club will also hold qualifying open water swims on July 24 and Sept. 25. The three qualifiers are sanctioned by the Northern Mariana Islands Swimming Federation and are collectively called the Triple Crown Open Water Swim Series.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_347228\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-347228\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-347228\" src=\"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/Tsunami-pix-Suzuki-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"312\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-347228\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Jinnosuke Suzuki<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Kimura said the choice of Tenorio and Suzuki was easy to make.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cJuhn Tenorio and Jinnosuke Suzuki have a lot of current CNMI age group records. After no more Marpi pool, we don\u2019t have swim meets here, but if we have a swim meet, these both high-level swimmers would\u2019ve broken a lot of CNMI record without fail,\u201d he said.<br \/>\nBraxton and Litulumar, meanwhile, are up-and-coming swimmers that Kimura said he could no longer ignore.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAoi Braxton and Shoko Litulumar haven\u2019t broken records yet. However, Braxton is already so close to the CNMI record for backstroke. If it is conversion time, she might have broken many CNMI records already. Litulumar is such a hard worker, I\u2019m sure she will break some CNMI records soon as well,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_347226\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-347226\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-347226\" src=\"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/Tsunami-pix-Braxton-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"311\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-347226\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Aoi Braxton<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Kimura said even though Tsunami Saipan has only been training in a non-Olympic swimming pool, he converts his wards\u2019 time in the non-regulation pool to official pool time and continues to use FINA points.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEvery time trial, we convert all results to official pool time. Not only that conversion but also FINA points, we calculate it. We depend on FINA points a lot,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Using those calculations, Tenorio had 620 points in the 100m backstroke, while Suzuki had 613 points in the 200m freestyle. Litulumar and Braxton, meanwhile, have so far managed 469 and 452 points, respectively, according to Kimura.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_347227\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-347227\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-347227\" src=\"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/Tsunami-pix-Litulumar-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"311\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-347227\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Shoko Litulumar<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Kimura also bared that before sustaining an injury training for a track and field competition, Litulumar\u2019s older sister, Asaka, was in line to represent Tsunami Saipan in the qualifiers for the FINA World Championships.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cShe had an injury from track and field and is still under rehabilitation. This time, as alternate of Asaka her younger sister, Shoko, will swim.
