{"id":347302,"date":"2021-07-05T06:00:05","date_gmt":"2021-07-04T20:00:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/?p=347302"},"modified":"2021-07-05T06:00:05","modified_gmt":"2021-07-04T20:00:05","slug":"tinian-unveils-pride-heart-monument-to-cap-pride-month","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/tinian-unveils-pride-heart-monument-to-cap-pride-month\/","title":{"rendered":"Tinian unveils Pride Heart monument to cap Pride Month"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-347341\" src=\"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/Pride-Heart-pix.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"270\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The Tinian Mayor\u2019s Office and the municipality celebrated its final event for Pride Month with the unveiling of the newly constructed Pride Heart monument last Wednesday, June 30, 2021, at the island\u2019s Natibu Park.<\/p>\n<p>The Tinian leadership, members of the local LGBT community, together with their supporters and partners, gathered at the Antonio M. Borja Amphitheater last Thursday for the unveiling, which capped the island\u2019s celebration of June as Pride Month.<\/p>\n<p>At the ceremony prior to the unveiling, LGBT\u00a0Pride organizer Bobby Diamond said he experienced a lot of firsts when it came to celebrating the month of June as \u201cPride Month\u201d on Tinian, beginning in 2018 when Tinian held the first-ever Pride celebration with a march, the following year painted the Tinian sign with the colors of the rainbow, followed by a Pride motorcade at Taga Beach, and commemorated the 50th anniversary of the Stonewall riots in New York that started the modern LGBT movement. \u201cAnd finally, we are here: the unveiling of the first-ever Tinian Pride Heart monument,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>In his remarks, the Tinian Mayor Edwin P. Aldan said that Pride Month is not just about celebrating and supporting LGBT community. \u201cIt is about recognizing the common experiences and the challenges of navigating in this world,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Bobby Cruz, who was the program\u2019s guest speaker, said, \u201cEmbracing our authenticity, and owning our truth: That\u2019s the space we want to live in the Marianas\u2026.And so, it is up to us\u2014 you, me, together\u2014we have to make a decision that we will be visible, that we will be heard, and we will demand to be included.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Other guests at the event were Senate President Jude U. Hofschneider and Tinia Legislative Delegation chair Sen. Francisco Q.
