CNMI taxpayers and all their dependents, including adult children, will get $500 each in local stimulus, according to Finance Secretary David DLG Atalig, who said his department expects to release about $25 million for this purpose using the American Rescue Plan Act money.<\/p>\n
The checks will be out before Aug. 15, said Atalig in response to Saipan Tribune\u2019s request for clarification about the local stimulus.<\/p>\n
He said at a radio news briefing last Friday that they\u2019re anticipating to release about 28,000 stimulus checks in all. \u201cRight now, we\u2019re still reviewing,\u201d he added. <\/p>\n
Atalig said Gov. Ralph DLG Torres has decided that they are going to provide $500 each to all taxpayers, including their dependents and without any income thresholds.<\/p>\n
The stimulus checks that people previously received from the federal government excluded those who were earning $75,000 and above per annum. This time, though, Atalig said, based on the ARPA funds and the analysis that he provided Torres, they determined that that they can do away with this requirement.<\/p>\n
\u201cSo every taxpayer and their dependents will get $500. And so that\u2019s exciting,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Atalig said right now they\u2019re just verifying the list because they\u2019re using data from the past stimulus checks.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe need to include all taxpayers, those also that are above the threshold,\u201d Atalig said.<\/p>\n
