They braved the rain to rake the bushes and clear the place of trash. With COVID-19, we actually saw an increase of single-use plastics, masks, gloves, and other trash that we’re finding now. We also found piles of trash lined up in between the business establishment buildings,” she said.

Siwa appealed to businesses at Paseo de Marianas to do the right thing by placing garbage bins near their establishments to encourage the public to dispose of their trash properly.

“We are asking cooperation from the businesses to have their own trash bins for their trash disposal. …We also encourage the public to pick up the litter while they are walking, which is one way of volunteering in cleaning up the environment,” she said.

PDM Promoters’ monthly cleanups are held every Saturday and are supported by the Bureau of Environmental and Coastal Quality and the non-profit’s major sponsors, T-Galleria and TSL Foundation.
Siwa said T-Galleria and TSL Foundation’s support enables them to have the cleaning materials needed for their cleanups.
