The Public School System\u2019s Office of Accountability, Research and Evaluation held a professional development yesterday at Laoalao Bay Golf & Resort on an overview of how data driven systems are building a bridge among data systems from Head Start\/Early Head Start Program and kindergarten through Grade 12.<\/p>\n
Peggy Feldman, an expert from DBDriven, a Virginia-based next-generation data and information warehouse, was brought in by PSS-ARE for the professional development. Senior director Rizalina P. Liwag, Ed.D, leads PSS-ARE.<\/p>\n
The professional development was for the members of the CNM Board of Education and PSS key management.<\/p>\n
BOE chair Andrew L. Orsini and Tinian board member Antonio L. Borja represented the policymaking and governing board of the school district.<\/p>\n
Others at the professional development were acting education commissioner Eric Magofna, Liwag, senior directors Yvonne Pangelinan, Ed.D, and Jackie Quitugua, Head Start\/Early Head Start Program director Lathania Angui, Federal Programs officer Tim Thornburgh, Special Education Program director Donna Flores, and principal representatives Ignacia Demapan, Ed.D, (elementary), Martha Kintol (middle schools) and Jonathan Aguon (high school), State Technology director Jesse Tenorio, and Instructional Technology & Distance Education director Bobby Cruz, Ed.D, among others.<\/p>\n
The professional development is geared toward meeting the school district\u2019s two-fold goals: 1) to establish a highly effective Statewide Longitudinal Data System infrastructure by linking Head Start\/Early Head Start data to kindergarten through 12th grade, and 2) shifting the use of data from compliance to accountability and strategic instructional usage through an Early Warning System.<\/p>\n
PSS\u2019 Educational Longitudinal Data System is \u201ca data system that collects and maintains detailed, high quality, student-and staff-level data; links these data across entities, providing a complete academic and performance history for each student, and makes these data accessible through reporting and analysis tools.<\/p>\n
Annette Plavedevega-Sablan is the PSS- SLDS director and lead for this project.<\/p>\n
The PSS-SLDS is funded by the federal SLDS grant designed to help the CNMI improve the data longitudinal management system, which later can be expanded from primary level to 12th grade and beyond PSS. (PSS)<\/p>\n
