(Contributed photo)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>A nonprofit organization dedicated to creating a community of support for those recovering from drug and alcohol addiction called Haggan\/Woong United for Recovery recently received a $25,000 check from the Saipan and Northern Islands Legislative Delegation, which the organization will be using to support the hiring of a program manager and to further build the organization\u2019s foundation. <\/p>\n<p>Herbert J. Sablan, Haggan\/Woong United for Recovery program manager, said they received the $25,000 check from SNILD on Sept. 15 and that it was \u201cperfect timing\u201d, since September is National Recovery Month in the CNMI. Speaking on behalf of the organization, Sablan thanked SNILD chair Sen. Vinnie Vinson F. Sablan and the other members of the committee for their support. <\/p>\n<p>In addition to financially supporting the hiring of a program manager, the $25,000 is a big help for the organization as it develops its standard operating procedures and develops what it will call a \u201cPeer Support\/ Recovery Coach Program,\u201d which will be a service that connects those going through recovery with individuals who can provide much-needed support. <\/p>\n<p>When asked what is Haggan\/Woong United for Recovery\u2019s purpose, Sablan said the organization\u2019s goal is to guide those who need help toward lifelong recovery and to combat the stigma surrounding those suffering from addiction.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c[Haggan Woong United for Recovery\u2019s goal] is to empower the community by providing support and guidance to those seeking lifelong recovery. The organization seeks to demonstrate that recovery is possible, through combatting stigma and contributing to the efforts of service providers, advocates, and champions in the community that is working hard to create a safer and healthier CNMI,\u201d said Sablan. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cHaggan\u201d is a Chamorro word and \u201cWoong\u201d is a Carolinian word.
