(UOG)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Triton Esports, the first-ever collegiate esports program for the University of Guam as well as the first in the Marianas, has established its roster of student-athletes for Fanuch\u00e5nan 2021. The program will compete this season in three esports: League of Legends, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, and for the first time, Valorant.<\/p>\n<p>Following tryouts held in August, 18 student-athletes were selected based on their flexibility and skills. The athletes competed in a two-day tournament against each other, the Triton Esports coaches, and established local teams to prove their skills and earn a spot on the team.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Triton Esports program is not just a way for students to have fun and improve their gaming knowledge and skills \u2013 it\u2019s a program that rigorously teaches teamwork, leadership skills, and the importance of physical fitness and mental health,\u201d said Ken San Nicolas, Triton Esports co-coordinator. \u201cWe\u2019re excited to have our new athletes grow in all of these areas this semester while proudly representing UOG.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Representing Triton Esports on League of Legends are:<\/strong><br \/>\n&#8211; Maoie \u201cMaoieXVI\u201d Jerao<br \/>\n&#8211; Anthony \u201cVnthony\u201d Orallo<br \/>\n&#8211; Vincent \u201cShisu\u00ec\u201d Pajela<br \/>\n&#8211; Tristan \u201cCrimsonComet\u201d Romero<br \/>\n&#8211; Ivan \u201cNawvii\u201d Rosell<br \/>\n&#8211; Ryoh \u201cYors\u201d Sato<br \/>\n&#8211; John \u201c1ssok\u201d Taman Jr.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Representing Triton Esports on Super Smash Bros. Ultimate are:<\/strong><br \/>\n&#8211; Daryl \u201cTechnition\u201d Dianzon<br \/>\n&#8211; Maven \u201cStratagem\u201d Dulana<br \/>\n&#8211; Ronee \u201cCapstwo\u201d Pangilinan<br \/>\n&#8211; Bill \u201cPokedranzer\u201d Lactaoen<br \/>\n&#8211; Adrian \u201cAszy\u201d Tambora<br \/>\n&#8211; Barron Josh \u201cTrix\u201d Tranate<\/p>\n<p><strong>Representing Triton Esports on Valorant are:<\/strong><br \/>\n&#8211; Phillip \u201cQue\u201d Quenga<br \/>\n&#8211; Gavin \u201cMango\u201d Mangosong<br \/>\n&#8211; Daniel \u201cChobo\u201d Lee<br \/>\n&#8211; John Paul \u201cJrizzy\u201d Tamayo<br \/>\n&#8211; An \u201cAkursa\u201d Truong<\/p>\n<p>The selected team members will each receive a $500 grant-in-aid award for their time and commitment. The athletes started practices last month and will work with Physical Fitness Coach Jolybii Song on their personal fitness goals. Additionally, they will meet with Mental Health Coach Paul Lazarra for personal check-ins and educational sessions on relevant mental health topics.<\/p>\n<p>Events and tournaments will be announced in the near future.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Valorant: A new addition under Triton Esports<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The character-based tactical shooter game, Valorant, is the newest addition to the Triton Esports program. Since its release in 2020, the game has grown an extensive fan base with a community of more than 14 million monthly players.<\/p>\n<p>Competing in Valorant will allow the team, for the first time since Triton Esports launched in 2020, to showcase their skills in the first-person shooter gaming format. Coaching the Valorant athletes is Will \u201cLeverage\u201d Hong, whose success in the game earned him Immortal rank and placed him in the top 1% of players in North America.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTryouts definitely were a success,\u201d Hong said. \u201cOur new team may not have the highest ranks, but we are eager to grow. We\u2019re looking forward to more executions now as a team rather than solo performances.
