{"id":352710,"date":"2021-10-01T06:00:19","date_gmt":"2021-09-30T20:00:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/?p=352710"},"modified":"2021-10-01T06:00:19","modified_gmt":"2021-09-30T20:00:19","slug":"kanoa-shana-win-100m-open-water-swim","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/kanoa-shana-win-100m-open-water-swim\/","title":{"rendered":"Kanoa, Shana win 100m open water swim"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/SSC-pix-1.jog-copy-scaled.jpg\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Kansa Owens and Shana Barman emerged the fastest in the 10-and-under division of the 100m race of Saipan Swim Club\u2019s final Triple Crown Open Water Swim Series held last Saturday, Sept. 25, in the waters off Civic Center Beach in Susupe.<\/p>\n<p>Owens, swimming for SSC, won the men\u2019s division after storming to the shore in 2:49.85. He was followed by Swimming Center Tsunami Saipan\u2019s Yutaro Kitagawa at 2:50.82 with SSC\u2019s Gabriel Walsh finishing third in 3:34.38.<\/p>\n<p>Kitagawa said he felt a little down after the race after finishing runner-up. \u201cI was very sad because I lost to Kanoa by a second. I should have practiced more.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Barman was top the women\u2019s swimmers in the distance after she emerged from the surf in 2:33.44. Sofia Cariaso was second in 3:34.81.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_352911\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-352911\" style=\"width: 225px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-352911 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/Shana-225x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"225\" height=\"300\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-352911\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Shana Barman emerged the fastest in the women\u2019s 10-and-under 100m race of Saipan Swim Club\u2019s final Triple Crown Open Water Swim Series held last Saturday, Sept. 25, in the waters off Civic Center Beach in Susupe. (Mark Rabago)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The winner, who is part of the amazing Barman family of swimmers, had to overcome some jitters before the open water swim started.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI was a little nervous for the final race of the Triple Crown but I wanted to win the race and I think I did my best. I focused on my swim and also the buoy. I felt my arms getting tired after I turned but I tried to keep my strokes high and strong and focused on the goal. I got first place and this is the third time for this ocean swim. I\u2019m really happy and look forward to next year\u2019s race.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Tsunami Saipan\u2019s Prashika Pandey, meanwhile, topped the women\u2019s 11-and-over 100m race with a time of 2:48.28. She was followed by Linda He and Corrie Xhai, both of Agape Christian School, at 3:18.96 and 3:19.80, respectively.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m really happy that I got to be a part of the race that was held on Saturday. I think that there should be more things like this because it challenges the swimmers into being better,\u201d said Pandey after the swim.<\/p>\n<p>In the men\u2019s 11-and-over 100m, Chengwei Zhang was first in 2:32.11 with Zihang Zhang and Jiahui Li second and third with times of 2:36.43 and 2:46.08, respectively.
