Sablan (Ind-MP) introduced Friday a legislation that seeks to increase the number of Veterans Centers and Veterans Administration\u2019s Community Based Outpatient Clinics in areas facing capacity issues or without access to either facility. <\/p>\n<p>Sablan said in his e-kilili newsletter over the weekend that, under his legislation, called \u201cVet Centers for Mental Health Act,\u201d veterans in the Marianas across America will have access to Veteran Administration\u2019s health care closer to home.<\/p>\n<p>The other co-authors of the legislation are Rep. Mikie Sherrill (D-New Jersey), Rep. Dean Phillips (D-Minnesota), Rep. Anthony Gonzalez (R-Ohio), and Rep. Brian Fitzpatrick (R-Pennsylvania).<\/p>\n<p>For the Marianas, that means establishment of both a Vet Center and VA Community Based Outpatient Clinics so the veterans no longer have to travel long distances for care, he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cVet Centers provide readjustment counseling and mental health services for veterans, active duty service members, and their families,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>At CBOCs, he said, veterans can receive primary and specialty health care from dedicated full-time VA staff.<\/p>\n<p>Sablan said both the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion support the bill. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Delegate Gregorio Kilili C.
