{"id":353631,"date":"2021-10-14T06:00:38","date_gmt":"2021-10-13T20:00:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/?p=353631"},"modified":"2021-10-14T06:00:38","modified_gmt":"2021-10-13T20:00:38","slug":"gms-celebrates-multicultural-day-with-the-theme-unity-in-diversity","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/gms-celebrates-multicultural-day-with-the-theme-unity-in-diversity\/","title":{"rendered":"GMS celebrates Multicultural Day with the theme \u2018Unity in Diversity\u2019"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>After a week of nonstop rain, the clouds finally let up and the sun came out last Thursday morning, Oct. 7, to greet Green Meadow School\u2019s students who were dressed in various cultural outfits as part of the school\u2019s celebration of Multicultural Day.<\/p>\n<p>GMS students wore different cultural attires, prepared song and dance performances, and displayed booths showcasing the culture they had chosen as part of the whole-day event that highlighted the importance and significance of cultural diversity.<\/p>\n<p>The day started with a parade of nations, with each class, themed around a specific nation\u2019s culture, marched in their costumes and flags around the campus grounds. After a short break, students showcased their costumes and different cultural attire, with each class taking the stage in turns to display their cultural and well-made homemade costumes. Some students wore traditional Japanese kimonos, some wore islander hat and skirts woven from leaves, some wore Indian saris and headdress shawls, while others wore Filipino barongs.<\/p>\n<div id='gallery-1' class='gallery galleryid-353631 gallery-columns-3 gallery-size-medium'><figure class='gallery-item'>\n\t\t\t<div class='gallery-icon '>\n\t\t\t\t<a href='https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/gms-celebrates-multicultural-day-with-the-theme-unity-in-diversity\/gms-1\/'>gms-1<\/a>\n\t\t\t<\/div><\/figure><figure class='gallery-item'>\n\t\t\t<div class='gallery-icon '>\n\t\t\t\t<a href='https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/gms-celebrates-multicultural-day-with-the-theme-unity-in-diversity\/gms-2\/'>gms-2<\/a>\n\t\t\t<\/div><\/figure><figure class='gallery-item'>\n\t\t\t<div class='gallery-icon '>\n\t\t\t\t<a href='https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/gms-celebrates-multicultural-day-with-the-theme-unity-in-diversity\/gms-3\/'>gms-3<\/a>\n\t\t\t<\/div><\/figure><figure class='gallery-item'>\n\t\t\t<div class='gallery-icon '>\n\t\t\t\t<a href='https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/gms-celebrates-multicultural-day-with-the-theme-unity-in-diversity\/gms-4\/'>gms-4<\/a>\n\t\t\t<\/div><\/figure><figure class='gallery-item'>\n\t\t\t<div class='gallery-icon '>\n\t\t\t\t<a href='https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/gms-celebrates-multicultural-day-with-the-theme-unity-in-diversity\/gms-5\/'>gms-5<\/a>\n\t\t\t<\/div><\/figure><figure class='gallery-item'>\n\t\t\t<div class='gallery-icon '>\n\t\t\t\t<a href='https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/gms-celebrates-multicultural-day-with-the-theme-unity-in-diversity\/gms-6\/'>gms-6<\/a>\n\t\t\t<\/div><\/figure>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\n<p>Following the costume contests, classic nursery rhymes and songs were performed by the elementary students in different languages such as French, Japanese and Spanish. The middle school students performed two dances\u2014one a Filipino dance called \u201cCarinosa\u201d and a modern dance choreographed by a Filipino dance group.<\/p>\n<p>Prizes and rewards were given to students for best costumes for each class and best display booths. Additional contests had students taking photography and painting pictures to highlight the theme \u201cUnity in Diversity.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The day wrapped up with students visiting each other\u2019s booths and activities.
